Moving Up

Quick Minor League Update:Pelfrey

The Mets’ 2005 first-round stud, Mike Pelfrey, has been promoted to Double-A Binghamton or as GM Omar Minaya said, "He moved himself up…With the way he’s pitched velocity-wise, command-wise and strikeout-to-walk ratio, he basically moved himself up." Pelfrey was 2-1 with a 1.64 ERA for Single-A St. Lucie this April.

  1. Zack

I’d love to see Pelfrey instead of Lima…but I guess it’s still way too early for him to pitch in The Show, huh?

  2. Carl

Not necessarily Zack. Pelfrey is 22 years old (three years Felix Hernandez’s senior) and had a full four years of college ball. If it wasn’t for Scott “Show Me The Money” Boras, Pelfrey would have probably been the first player taken in the 2005 draft. Minaya mentioned Pelfrey as an option just last week after Bannister went down. Don’t forget about Alay Soler. He could be another possible major league arm come this summer. For now though Willie and his crew will take a long look at journeyman Jeremi Gonzalez and former Orioles’s prospect John Maine.
